Curriculum for Elementary I (6-9 years)
Cosmic Education:
Cosmic Education in the Montessori curriculum sets the stage to develop more caring and peaceful citizens.
This is where the teacher instills in the students a sense of being connected to all things in the
universe. The Montessori teacher sets the stage for understanding that all living creatures are important and
interconnected.
Physical and Cultural Geography:
The formation of the Earth, its place in the solar system, its atmosphere, weather, seasons and its various
land and water features, maps, the study of continents, countries of the world and their capital cities.
History:
The students will explore the concept of time, the timeline of life, the timeline of people, the common needs
of people, and civilizations.
Language Arts:
Reading, writing (creative and research projects), spelling, dictionary skills, poetry, novel studies,
penmanship and handwriting, parts of speech, and Junior Great Books.
Matter and Astronomy:
From atoms to galaxies, the students will have a chance to participate in hands on activities, ask
questions, discover answers, and then find more answers to questions that will arise.
Botany:
Plants are one of the key components that sustain animal life on earth. Plant anatomy, plant physiology,
plant geography, and horticulture. The students will have a chance to plant and to care for the
plants in the class and on the school grounds.
Zoology:
Animals have inhabited the Earth for millions of years, growing from simple one celled organisms to the diverse
variety we see today. Students will be exposed to the animal kingdom and classification. They will also
explore animal needs and how they are met.
Science Experiments:
These experiments will excite the students. The students will keep personal records for each experiment.
Math:
The four operations are taught in detail. Geometry is a big focus also. Fractions, factors, and
multiples will be introduced.
Health Sciences and Art:
Positive Self-image and self esteem, inside the human body, and nutrition are all covered in the health
sciences. The elements of art and art from cultures around the world are the focus of the art curriculum.
Physical Education:
Children need some structured and unstructured physical activity daily. A variety of games and activities
will be taught to promote cardiovascular exercise, strength training, skills, stretching and fun. The
focus will continue to be cooperative and to promote lifelong physically fit students.
Music:
Exposure to a variety of music and instruments. The students will have a chance to listen, sing, and
play music. They will learn to read music. Students will also have the option to play an instrument.
Advanced Practical Life:
Allow the students to continue to grow in their practical life. They will work on motor skills, food
preparation and cooking, crafts, planting, social graces, and special projects that they plan and carry out.
Going Out:
Going out is an integral part of the Montessori elementary experience. The world becomes the children’s
classroom. As the students are learning and researching, they will be "going out" into the community to
do research or to learn a life skill.
Spanish:
The students will have the opportunity to learn Spanish through songs, games, listening, and speaking.
They will be exposed to the Spanish culture also.
Five Great Lessons:
These are a series of stories and lessons that are designed to provide an understanding of the history
of the universe with a focus on humankind’s place in that continuing story. The lessons are divided
into five unique parts: 1.The story of the Universe; 2. Life Comes to Earth; 3. The Coming of
Humans; 4. The Story of Writing (or language); 5. The Story of Numbers (Mathematics).

We now provide reasonably priced tutoring for all ages in all subjects. We offer one-on-one tutoring at times that are convenient for you.
